Chamari Athapathu Awarded ICC Women’s Player of The Month for July 2024

Chamari Athapaththu has secured her second ICC Women’s Player of the Month award in 2024, having previously won it in May.

Sri Lanka’s inspirational captain, Chamari Athapaththu, claimed the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for July 2024, surpassing India’s prominent openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. July proved to be a remarkable month for Athapaththu, as she achieved new milestones and led Sri Lanka to their first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title, defeating the seven-time champions, India. This marks Athapaththu’s third ICC Women’s Player of the Month award, placing her as the joint second-most successful player in the award’s history, tied with West Indies’ Hayley Matthews, and just behind Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner, who has won the award four times.

In the last edition of Women’s Asia Cup 2024, Athapaththu’s impressive performance included 304 runs at an excellent strike rate of 146.85, which alone could have earned her the Player of the Tournament title. Additionally, she contributed with the ball, taking three wickets, including key dismissals in the final against India. For more information:
