Gus Atkinson Awarded ICC Men’s Player of The Month for July 2024

England seamer Gus Atkinson has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2024 after his heroics in the West Indies Test series.

England’s fast bowler capped off an outstanding first Test series by edging out strong competition from India’s all-rounder Washington Sundar and Scotland’s seamer Charlie Cassell to claim the ICC Player of the Month award. “It’s a real privilege to win the ICC Player of the Month! The start of my Test career has been incredible, and I never imagined achieving this level of success in my first series with England,” Atkinson remarked. “I am deeply thankful to my teammates and the amazing environment fostered by Baz (Brendon McCullum) and Stokesy (Ben Stokes). “It’s an honor to play for and represent my country. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead, especially with a big series against Sri Lanka coming up. I’m eager to stay consistent and do my best to help England succeed.”

Atkinson made a spectacular Test debut during James Anderson’s final international match, claiming 12 wickets and leaving a lasting impression. His brilliant performance included a five-wicket haul in each innings, as the 26-year-old dismantled the West Indies batting lineup, finishing with remarkable figures of 7/45 in the first innings, reducing the visitors to just 121 runs. He followed up with another five-wicket haul (5/61) as England secured an innings victory by 114 runs. With a total of 12 wickets, he was the clear choice for the Player of the Match award. Atkinson maintained his impressive form, taking 10 more wickets across the remaining two Tests. This included a four-wicket haul in the first innings of the final Test in Birmingham. He also contributed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 21 in the second Test at Nottingham and another 21 in the final match. For more information:
