English Batter Dawid Malan has Declare His Retirement!

England star and former World No.1 T20I batter Dawid Malan has announced his retirement from international cricket. Malan, who last represented England during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, has not played internationally since.

Over his career, Malan appeared in 114 matches across all formats: 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20Is. He scored a total of 4,416 runs at an average of 37.74, with eight centuries and 31 half-centuries. Malan made a significant impact in his T20I debut in June 2017, scoring a swift 78 off 44 balls against South Africa. He particularly excelled in the T20I format, rising to prominence on the international stage.

In September 2020, Malan reached the top of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings and became the fastest man to score 1,000 Test runs, achieving this feat in just 24 innings. He also holds the record for the highest-ever rating in the ICC T20I Player Rankings for batting, with a peak rating of 915.

A key figure in England’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022, Malan was sidelined for the knockout stages due to a groin injury sustained against Sri Lanka in the group phase.

Malan also thrived in ODIs, entering the 2023 World Cup in outstanding form. Between June 2022 and September 2023, he scored five centuries in just 15 innings, securing his position as an opener in the squad. He continued to shine in the tournament, scoring a century (140 off 107 balls) in England’s second match against Bangladesh, helping to secure a win. Despite his efforts, England failed to advance beyond the group stages and could not retain their title. Throughout the World Cup, Malan was one of England’s few standout performers, finishing as the team’s top scorer with 404 runs, which included a century and two half-centuries.
