Dunith Wellalage’s outstanding all-round performance against India earned him the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August 2024. The 21-year-old outshined South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and West Indies’ Jayden Seales to claim the honor.

Wellalage, a former captain of Sri Lanka’s U19 team, made significant progress in his early international career during August. His efforts helped Sri Lanka secure their first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 1997. Wellalage is the second Sri Lankan man to receive the award in 2024, following Kamindu Mendis, ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March.
