- Leadership: The captain is the leader of the team and sets the tone for the players both on and off the field. They inspire and motivate the team members, ensuring they perform to the best of their abilities. Like Australian back-to-back World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting.
- Toss: On behalf of the team, the captain comes and toss the coin for batting or fielding decision.
- Strategy: The captain is responsible for making tactical decisions during the match, such as field placements, bowling changes, and batting order adjustments. They need to anticipate the opposition’s moves and adapt their strategy accordingly.
- Man-Management: Captains understand their teammates’ personalities, strengths, and weaknesses, ensuring each player feels valued and supported. They foster a cohesive team environment and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise.
- Representing the Team: The captain often serves as the spokesperson for the team, representing them in press conferences and interacting with match officials.
