Century is a Milestone for Batters!

In cricket, a “century” refers to a batsman scoring 100 or more runs in a single innings. It is a notable achievement and signifies a high level of skill and endurance. Reaching 100 runs, batsmen typically celebrate by raising their bats to the crowd and often removing their helmets as a mark of respect and acknowledgment. Century refers to honor, a huge achievement for a batsman. Every batsman desired a score of a century or a hundred or more. It’s a vital milestone to measure a batsman how good he/she is as a batter.

  1. Significance: Scoring a century is a major milestone for a batsman and refers to their skill and concentration. It is celebrated by the player, their team, and the spectators.
  2. Formats: Centuries can be scored in all forms of cricket, including:
    • Test Matches: These are played over five days, giving batsmen more time to score centuries.
    • One-Day Internationals (ODIs): Limited to 50 overs per side, making centuries less common but still achievable.
    • Twenty 20 (T20): Limited to 20 overs per side, making centuries rare due to the shorter format.
  3. Terminology:
    • Half-Century: When a batsman scores 50-99 runs in an innings.
    • Double Century: When a batsman scores 200-299 runs in an innings.
    • Triple Century: When a batsman scores 300-399 runs in an innings.
    • Quadruple Century: When a batsman scores 400 or more runs in an innings, extremely rare. Only Caribbean batsman Brain Lara Scored a Quadruple Century against England in 2004.
