England and USA faced off in a decisive Super Eights encounter in Barbados – with both sides still able to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals. England won and elected to field.Â
Team USA were 115 all out, with an over remaining – having lost the last five wickets for no runs. Before that, Chris Jordan took four wickets in the 19th over to wrap up the innings, after Adil Rashid had earlier taken two to make him England’s joint-highest wicket-taker in Men’s T20 World Cups.
England knew they would have to win convincingly if they were to secure their semi-final spot themselves without having to wait for the result of the remaining group game – and even more so if they wanted to be in with a chance of topping the group. And so it proved, with captain Buttler leading the way. His 83 off just 38 balls was a sensational knock, most notably hitting five sixes off one Harmeet over to close in on the win. Match summary:
USA 115 (18.5)
ENG 117/0 (9.4)
England Won by 10 Wickets
Player of the Match Adil Rashid
