India Register a Victory Over Bangladesh

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Shanto won the toss and bowled first at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

India seemed set for a dominant performance as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli started the day, reaching 29/0 in just three overs. However, Rohit fell to Shakib al Hasan, marking Shakib’s 50th wicket in T20 World Cup history. Kohli continued to score until the ninth over when Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled him out for 37. Rishabh Pant then took over, delivering a strong cameo of 36 runs before attempting a reverse sweep off Rishad Hossain, only to be caught by Tanzim, leaving India at 108/4. Rishad Hossain later clean-bowled Shivam Dube, who had been poised to finish the innings with his three sixes but was dismissed for 34 while attempting another big hit. Ultimately, Hardik Pandya guided India to victory with a half-century off 27 balls, supported by Axar Patel who stayed with him until the end of the innings. At the end of the first innings, India scored 196 in 120 balls.

Bangladesh showed some resistance in its response but ultimately fell short, starting slowly and never managing to catch up. Although they managed to keep their wickets for a while, the runs were hard to come by. Litton Das was the first to fall, caught by Yadav off Pandya for 13. Tanzid Hasan followed for 29, falling victim to Kuldeep Yadav’s googly.

Jasprit Bumrah then made his mark, drawing Najmul Hossain Shanto into a catch by Arshdeep Singh for 40 in the 16th over, dealing a significant blow to Bangladesh’s hopes. Shanto’s solid performance included one four and three sixes from 32 balls. Arshdeep Singh then claimed a wicket himself, with Jaker Ali dragging a slower ball to Virat Kohli, leaving Bangladesh at 110/6 with four overs remaining. Rishad tried to close the gap with a quick 24 off just ten balls before hitting a Bumrah delivery straight to Sharma at extra cover in the penultimate over. Arshdeep wrapped up the innings by taking out the resilient Mahmudullah, who had come in during the 14th over and scored 13 runs off 15 balls. Match summary:
