Matthew Mott Steps Down as Head Coach

Matthew Mott has had a remarkable career as a white-ball cricket coach, with achievements including winning the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022, the Champions League T20 as the head coach of New South Wales, and the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2020, as well as the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2021 with Australia.

Rob Key, the ECB’s Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, praised Mott for his tenure and highlighted the necessity for a fresh direction for the limited-overs team. The ECB announced that Mott has resigned from his position with immediate effect. His final involvement was overseeing England’s campaign in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team, as the defending champions, was eliminated in the semi-finals after a 68-run defeat to India.
